Employee gains silver promotion!

An employee of Super Seashores has gained a promotion due to his smart thinking and inventive idea.

George went away during the week and whilst at home constructed a prototype model of his sea defense. "The model was made using tin foil (to act as strong, hard metal) and wrapped inside are stones (to act as large boulders)", George said.

The model, shown by George has earnt him a silver membership. Company directors James and Jack stated: "We congratulate George on his idea and his hard work. Maybe it's something we can build on our new beach!".

Coran, Debbie, Sam, Kyle, Jacob and Eloise got a promotion and received a silver membership. Company director James informed the lucky 6 of their promotion and that their work was so good that Jack was currently on the coast building it.

The class was then asked by James to complete another important task for Super Seashores. This time the company had bought some coast in Suffolk but it had no facilities to attract people.

All employees brainstormed their ideas then went away to design beach huts, toilets, piers and lifeguard stations that could all be built on the beach.

They were presented with membership cards and have received their first task - to design sea defences for an area of coast in Norfolk.

Company directors James and Jack recorded their first message to 5/4 and explained that the company doesn't have a lot of money. However the new company employees need to choose some suitable sea defenses and explain why they have chosen them!

In groups, the employees have been frantically designing groynes, sea walls, gabions and revetments in a bid to gain a promotion.

Results of this task with be posted by the company directors shortly...

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside!

We travelled to the East coast this week to study the coast, erosion and the town of Southwold. We began our visit by sketching and discussing the erosion that's occurring at the North end of the beach.
We talked about the houses that are at risk and the sea walls and groynes that are in place. Aimee said "it is interesting to see that the sea walls stop where the edge of the town ends and some houses are not going to be there for long! I think this is because of the erosion and it's too expensive to keep building sea walls".

As we walked South along the beach we noticed all the different coloured each huts. Each one had a different name. Debbie's favourite was 'Ceez ruff', Callum's favourite was 'O 2 B @ C', Eloise's favourite was 'Cloud 9'.

When we arrived at the pier we sat for lunch. Some of us decided to test the temperature of the water and go for a paddle. It...was... very... cold...!

However Sofia, Mae, Holly and Megan made the most of it!

After our lunch we looked at the wooden groynes that have been put in place and the concrete sea walls. We also noticed how some of the rocks had got smoother as they rolled about in the sea.

Our afternoon included a survey of the shops in Southwold and a questionnaire which we asked to 100 members of the public.

We were very thankful the weather stayed warm!
